Let me just come out(no pun intended) and say that I'm not a huge Mariah Carey fan, so I would never consider myself a "lamb" as her fans are affectionately called. But when one of her lambs sent me the video of an onstage gay wedding proposal that took place Saturday night at the Palms Hotel during Mariah's recent Las Vegas concert... I couldn't help but gush a little bit over the diva.

The adorable couple is Maurie Sherman and Mathew Almeida of Toronto, Canada. Maurie tells the LA Times about the months of preparation that went into the two minute wedding proposal that has now been viewed over 50, 000 times on YouTube.

From The LA Times:

According to Sherman, he spent six months working to arrange what you see in the clip, and he bombarded everyone from the Palms to Perez Hilton, until he finally got the ear of Mariah Carey's management company. And, even then, nothing was for sure:

"I worked as hard as I can to make it happen. Everyone loved the idea. But no one made promises. I did not find out until five minutes before the concert started. Her security came over and talked to me. 'I think we are going to do this. And, I think it will be during the show on stage.' I did not know before that moment. But I came prepared. I dressed nicely and brought the candy ring in my pocket and made sure it didn't break. Mathew had no idea.

Unfortunately, Maurie & Matthew will never get to experience the cheap thrill that most heterosexuals experience by having a quick drive-thru Elvis Presley Chapel wedding in Las Vegas because gay marriage is illegal in Nevada. But luckily for them they live in Canada where marriage equality is the law of the land.

Congrats to the happy couple!

Thanks Automatic Prince
