I came across this latest episode of The Lexi Show over the weekend and for reasons that will become obvious later in the post I couldn't get it off my mind. You may remember Lexi from her highly controversial interview with recording artist Tonex' that drew the ire of Christian fundamentalists everywhere after Tonex' boldly proclaimed his homosexuality.
Her latest guest is Pastor Tony Smith of The Way of God Church of The Lord Jesus in Atlanta. I'm not kidding you. I swear I didn't make the title of his church up. His no holds- barred style of preaching paired with his views on the subjugation of women and the LGBT community are drawing intense criticism.
During this three part interview Smith manages to spread misinformation about HIV/AIDS; claiming the virus can be spread through synthetic hair and kissing, admonishes women who are victims of domestic violence and adultery for seeking divorces, claims Bishop TD Jakes is a false prophet, defines ministries spearheaded by women as "ratholes", and denounces seminaries for teaching students to use "logic" when reading the bible.
Sure. Because we all know the most dangerous thing a person can bring to a reading of the scripture is their brain. You would think that most people in religious circles would be quick to condemn Smith's form of extremist preaching, but not so.
Anti-gay hate website Gay Christian Movement Watch unsurprisingly supports Pastor Smith and attacks Lexi along with her gay assistant.
"It was very interesting the contrast of the recent interview with Pastor Tony Smith of Atlanta with that of of Pastor Anthony Williams of San Diego (Tonex'). Both, in my estimation are biblically challenged. But Lexi’s bias was on blazing display. Gone were any pretensions of being professional, a journalist, etc. She was openly hostile to Smith [watch video of her facial expressions] and those who accompanied him. She even took time to attack members of Smith’s church for not participating in her “worship” service. Lexi was snide, sarcastic and combative with Smith but called Tonex her brother in the Lord who she was obligated to “love”.
